Normalisation dans le domaine des nanotechnologies, incluant l'un ou les deux éléments suivants : <ul> <li>1. Compréhension et contrôle de la matière et des processus à l'échelle nanométrique, généralement, mais pas exclusivement, en dessous de 100 nanomètres dans une ou plusieurs dimensions, où l'apparition de phénomènes dépendant de la taille permet généralement de nouvelles applications. </li><li>2. Utilisation des propriétés des matériaux nanométriques qui diffèrent de celles des atomes, des molécules et de la matière en vrac, afin de créer des matériaux, des dispositifs et des systèmes améliorés qui exploitent ces nouvelles propriétés. </li></ul> Les tâches spécifiques comprennent l'élaboration de normes pour : la terminologie et la nomenclature ; la métrologie et l'instrumentation, y compris les spécifications des matériaux de référence ; les méthodologies d'essai ; la modélisation et les simulations ; et les pratiques scientifiques en matière de santé, de sécurité et d'environnement.

Standaardisatie op het gebied van nanotechnologieën die een of beide van de volgende omvat: <ul> <li>1. Inzicht in en beheersing van materie en processen op nanoschaal, doorgaans, maar niet uitsluitend, kleiner dan 100 nanometer in een of meer dimensies waar het optreden van grootteafhankelijke verschijnselen doorgaans nieuwe toepassingen mogelijk maakt, </li><li>2. Het benutten van de eigenschappen van nanomaterialen die verschillen van de eigenschappen van individuele atomen, moleculen en bulkmaterie, om verbeterde materialen, apparaten en systemen te creëren die gebruikmaken van deze nieuwe eigenschappen. </li></ul> Specifieke taken omvatten het ontwikkelen van standaarden voor: terminologie en nomenclatuur; metrologie en instrumentatie, inclusief specificaties voor referentiematerialen; testmethodologieën; modellering en simulaties; en op wetenschap gebaseerde gezondheids-, veiligheids- en milieupraktijken.

Standardisierung im Bereich der Nanotechnologien, die einen oder beide der folgenden Punkte umfasst: <ul> <li>1. Verständnis und Kontrolle von Materie und Prozessen im Nanomaßstab, typischerweise, aber nicht ausschließlich, unter 100 Nanometern in einer oder mehreren Dimensionen, wo das Auftreten größenabhängiger Phänomene normalerweise neue Anwendungen ermöglicht, </li><li>2. Nutzung der Eigenschaften von Materialien im Nanomaßstab, die sich von den Eigenschaften einzelner Atome, Moleküle und Massenmaterie unterscheiden, um verbesserte Materialien, Geräte und Systeme zu schaffen, die diese neuen Eigenschaften ausnutzen. </li></ul> Zu den spezifischen Aufgaben gehört die Entwicklung von Standards für: Terminologie und Nomenklatur; Metrologie und Instrumentierung, einschließlich Spezifikationen für Referenzmaterialien; Testmethoden; Modellierung und Simulationen; und wissenschaftlich fundierte Gesundheits-, Sicherheits- und Umweltpraktiken.

Standardization in the field of nanotechnologies that includes either or both of the following: <ul> <li>1. Understanding and control of matter and processes at the nanoscale, typically, but not exclusively, below 100 nanometres in one or more dimensions where the onset of size-dependent phenomena usually enables novel applications, </li><li>2. Utilizing the properties of nanoscale materials that differ from the properties of individual atoms, molecules, and bulk matter, to create improved materials, devices, and systems that exploit these new properties. </li></ul> Specific tasks include developing standards for: terminology and nomenclature; metrology and instrumentation, including specifications for reference materials; test methodologies; modelling and simulations; and science-based health, safety, and environmental practices.
